Until I started typing this I had the lyrics to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song up here. It was pretty funny until I realized people might actually want to know something about me. Well... My name is Kirk. And I believe I was named after the Star Trek character, although my parents wont admit it. I live and grew up in Martinez Ca. about 20 mins from San Francisco.. I've been drawing and painting and building crap with Legos since I was a little kid. When I started to grow (get fat) my parents were all about me playing football.. But I hated sports.. So every Sunday when we'd go to my Uncles house to watch the game I would just draw with crayons.

In around 5th or 6th grade I started drawing skulls and eyeballs copying stuff I saw in Thrasher magazine... I pretty much still draw skulls and eyeballs don't I? Around that time, in like 1988, I saw a feature on Robert Williams and then started to try and rip him off.. I've almost got it down.. just kidding. i mean, but yeah.. uhm no.. Needless to say I was really inspired by that type of artwork..

In Jr. High and High School I started getting into Heavy Metal.. And that opened up a whole new artistic world for me with those damn Album covers! (more skulls, this time with 666 on them) My art teacher pretty much told me I sucked and that art school would be a waste of time.

So I started playing drums.. didn't go to art school, but 4 years after I graduated (and a year at a web design job) my band got a record deal with Columbia Records. Suck that art teacher!

Well, 3 years of touring later, I found out how harsh the Music Industry is.. We got out of our deal with the label and then after a second go at it, the band split up.. So I started painting and drawing again.. and now I'm finding out how _____ (insert adjective of your choice) the art world is.. Especially after not going to art school.

Well, anyway, a trip to SFMOMA made me think.. "most of this stuff is shitty, I could do that" and now I want to be an artist. I have a website and everything.
